#AdamBringsChange? Double Standard Censorship: boys vs. girls – examples
Posted by admin in All Adam, AMAs, Controversy on December 2nd, 2009
Will Adam Lambert really bring a change to the apparently double-standard censorship that seem to be present in the US media?

Cannot believe it? I found some examples:
1. Adam Lambert is Censored – Madonna and Britney Are Immortalized
Double Standard Censorship: What’s Okay for Girls Isn’t Okay for Boys
by Damien Andrews, AP
After American Idol finalist Adam Lambert kissed a boy during his performance at the 2009 American Music Awards, CBS network executives immediately blurred the image for all repeat broadcasts on their channel. But when Madonna kissed Britney Spears at the 2003 MTV Video Music awards, that 15 second girl-on-girl kiss was all we saw on the news for a month. And it was as clear as crystal. In fact some news networks slowed the footage down and enlarged it so we could see just how saucy (pornographic?) Britney and Madonna got during their open mouth smooch. They blurred Adam Lambert’s kiss, but enlarged and enhanced Madonna and Britney’s kiss. My point is: double standard censoring is alive and well. Girls kissing girls on TV has become a lucrative business out in Hollywood, in part thanks to the award winning Showtime lesbian drama, The L-Word. But you will never see a show like The L-Word based on men, apparently. Mainstream society has become very comfortable with a girl kissing another girl. But obviously we are still not ready to see a boy kissing another boy on TV. Just ask Adam Lambert.
In a straight male dominated world, scenes like Adam Lambert kissing another boy will never be widely accepted on TV or in the movies. One question I keep asking myself is: if Adam Lambert was a girl, would his same sex kiss have been blurred out at the AMA’s? Um, well, obviously not. Is that okay? No, not really.

LATimes comments on Adam Lambert’s abc’s cancellations: ‘ABC shuts Adam Lambert out of ‘Kimmel’: Is the FCC to blame?’
Posted by admin in All Adam, AMAs, Controversy on December 2nd, 2009
LATimes shed some more light and gives some more facts about Adam Lambert’s abc cancellations.
In their article ‘ABC shuts Adam Lambert out of ‘Kimmel’: Is the FCC to blame?’ we read among others that, despite Adam giving the blame on FFC, not ABC:
The performance on Kimmel’s live stage was scheduled before Lambert made his now infamous debut on the AMAs on Nov. 22.
The FCC doesn’t monitor programming after 10 p.m. (Adam’s appearance aired at 10:55 pm)
In a statement to The Times, an ABC spokeswoman made no mention of the FCC and would only explain the network’s decision to disinvite Lambert from performing on “Kimmel” as follows, “We decided not to move forward with the booking at this time.” ABC declined to be interviewed about the issue.

ABC cancellations of Adam Lambert continue. #AdamBringsChange is trending on twitter.

Abc’s cancellation of Adam Lambert from Good Morning America was not a one-time event following his controversial performance on AMAs on the 22nd of November.
Adam Lambert fans’ anxious thoughts has been confirmed today as Adam tweeted

Adam has been scheduled to appear on Jimmy Kimmel show with a mini concert on Dec 17, but as it has been confirmed, this appearance is cancelled now. As per Jimmy Kimmel’s tweet, Allison Iraheta is scheduled to perform instead.

As an addition to this, Adam also tweeted (that tweet is however not to be found any longer) that he was disinvited from performing on “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” According to LATimes, sources at Dick Clark Productions, however, tell those plans were never finalized.
As a prompt reaction of Adam Lambert’s fans on twitter is the trend #AdamBringsChange at the moment at position 5 in the trending topics…

‘Time to stop the hypocrisy’ – a comment on Adam Lambert’s AMAs controversy by The Palestine Herald
Posted by MsAlex in All Adam, AMAs, Comments, Controversy, Press & Media on December 1st, 2009
There have been many comments about Adam’s AMA performance and the following abc/CBS moves that only increase the level of controversy. This one is one of the most interesting ones, written by Robert Rich in the The Palestine Herald, published on the 29th of November 2009 under name Time to stop the hypocrisy on freedom of expression.
It’s time to stop the hypocrisy. Either let Adam Lambert come on the show and perform in gloriously man-on-man kissing fashion, or cancel both his and Rihanna’s performance. I know there are many out there who find Lambert’s actions despicable and can’t stomach what he stands for, but there are just as many out there who think Rihanna parading around half-naked is just as bad. We claim to have freedom of expression in this country, but we all know it’s a lie. Artists and people are still held down because of many, many things, while others get to flourish. It’s time to decide ABC: what’s your move? Do both get to perform, or neither?
The abc producers talk about Adam Lambert’s AMA performance: ‘Adam, you’re not famous enough to do this!’

Some of the abc producers talked about Adam’s AMA performance just after the show has been aired.
The video is called ‘AMA Aftermath’ (!) and the main conclusion is that… Adam is not famous enough to do the controversial things on stage (!).
The original interview is at the The View website, click on the photo below to be re-directed there.

Adam Lambert is merely the latest pop star to link sex with violence
My issue, however, isn’t with the kiss but with the way Lambert has chosen to present his sexuality, particularly in his lyrics. Lambert’s idea of sex is imbued with aggression. It is forceful and sneering and has no issue with holding someone down until they acquiesce. What depresses me is that the 27-year-old singer is just the latest pop star for whom sexuality and violence have become entwined. Rihanna’s publicity campaign for her current album, Rated R, is one recent big-name example, where the singer can be seen barely wearing a barbed-wire dress. This might be her way of contexualising what happened to her in a way that presents her as in control, but it’s still a disturbing set of images to project to your audience.

AfterElton.com about Adam Lambert’s AMA/abc/CBS controversy and the blurred kiss
Posted by MsAlex in All Adam, AMAs, Blogs, Controversy, Press & Media on November 29th, 2009

After Elton blog/Ed Kennedy of course also comments on the recent controversy, this time focus on the CBS blurring Adam’s guy-guy kiss on AMAs stage.
After his sexy American Music Awards performance, Adam Lambert had his scheduled appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America canceled. But he still got up early, to do the competing CBS Early Show. And the whole thing may have been the savviest move yet from the performer.
While he admitted the live performance got a bit more sexual than what he had rehearsed, he was quick to point out that it was nearly 11pm and “family hour” was over at 10pm, and kids should be in bed. He also takes a controversial (irony, people) stance that if parents were offended, maybe they should Tivo late night programs before allowing their children to watch them. Active parenting? Radical concept.
The thing that caught me was that in the intro to the interview, CBS ran a pretaped piece, with sound bites from a conservative who was outraged and an industry insider that said it was par for the course. And in that intro, they showed this picture from the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards (Madonna/Britney) But four minutes later in the interview, they showed Adam’s performance from the American Music Awards (blurred kiss).
OUT Magazine about Adam Lambert’s AMA performance
Posted by MsAlex in All Adam, AMAs, Comments, Controversy, Press & Media, Sexuality on November 29th, 2009
OUT Magazine, that become infamous recently for slamming Adam for not being ‘gay enough’ was quick with the comment on Adam’s performance on AMAs. ON 25th of November they published a note in which we read among others:
Whatever else is being said, whatever recriminations are still being hurled, we were delighted by Adam’s performance at the AMAs on Sunday night. Adam may have dedicated that performance to Out with his upraised finger, but the outrage that followed simply served to clarify our original point. As Adam said in an interview with Rolling Stone shortly after his performance, “I think there’s there’s a double standard going on in the entertainment community right now.” Our point, exactly.
Language is slippery and many commentators mistakenly interpreted the editor’s letter as an attack on Adam for not being gay enough, rather than a critique of the record industry’s conservatism and timidity. It was addressed to Adam, but could have been addressed to any number of celebrities who have been encouraged to limit their exposure in the gay press for fear that it would alienate their wider fan base. We believe that such an old school way of separating gay and straight needs to be challenged by those with the confidence and talent to stand up to the bullies.
And yes, they also seem to get my point that Adam’s finger was directed at them!!!

Lyndsey Parker about Adam Lambert’s abc controversy: ‘An American Idol, Banned In The USA’
Posted by MsAlex in All Adam, AMAs, Blogs, Comments, Controversy, Press & Media on December 2nd, 2009
The abc’s cancellation of Adam Lambert performance has provoked the immediate reactions of the press. Once of the very first to react, as usual in case of Adam Lambert was Lyndsey Parker from RealityRocks blog by yahoo in her article: ‘An American Idol, Banned In The USA’, where she gives the examples of other American performers who have been banned and censored from US media, but it only helped them to achieve the immortality and status of stars:
