Adam Lambert to E! Online about album, charity, Ellen DeGeneres and more

In the article published on E! Online on the 28th of September 2009 by Breannie L.Heldman Adam dishes among others:

About cooperation with RCA

“I think there’s a little bit of a misconception out in the public that people that come out of American Idol are puppetted and kind of controlled. That hasn’t been my experience one bit. They’ve been completely supportive and collaborative with me and all the powers that be are really trying to facilitate my artistic vision.”

About tracks on his new album

“For a handful of these songs, I’ve gotten to write on them. So I really feel I’ve gotten to inject a lot of this music on the album with my own personal vocal stylings and my own lyrical content. A lot of it talks about stuff I really care about and that I find interesting, so that feels really good.”

About Ellen DeGeneres as judge on American Idol

“I can’t wait to see her banter with Simon [Cowell], I think she’ll give him a hard time. I hope she does.”
She’s obviously a fan of the show, and she’s been in the entertainment industry for a long time, so, strictly from an entertainment aspect, I think she’ll provide a lot of great insight and really speak for the people that watch the show that aren’t all that well versed in the music industry and in music,” he explains. “I think it’s good in that regard.”

About Donorschoose.org charity

“I was getting a lot of gifts from fans while I was on the show, and it was really sweet and felt very supportive and I enjoyed that. But then I started feeling guilty. I was like, I’m in a very fortunate position right now and I don’t want these people spending their money on me. I just want them to enjoy the music. So I wanted to find a way to kind of redirect that financial energy. I think that it’s great to know exactly where your money’s going. With public schools, the arts programs are some of the first budget cuts that are made typically. There’s not a lot of money going around those programs and I feel like, as a student of the arts, school and some outside activities really shaped me into who I am today. I wanted to give back to that cause.”

American Idol’s Adam Lambert Teams Up With DonorsChoose.org to Support Public School Classrooms in Need

Thousands of Students Lack Essential Learning Supplies; Lambert Fan Groups Compete to Donate the Most to Classrooms

NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwire – August 24, 2009) – Online education charity DonorsChoose.org announced today that Adam Lambert, “American Idol’s” eighth season runner-up, will support high-need public school classrooms and inspire his fan groups to compete for the most donations. Lambert will ask tens of thousands of fans to donate directly to classroom project requests posted by teachers at DonorsChoose.org. When the challenge concludes, Lambert will deliver supplies to a randomly selected classroom and reward the fan group with the most donations with signed photos and exclusive online interviews. The new challenge campaign represents an unusual intersection of star power, Web technology and collective citizen action for social change.

The Adam Lambert Network fan group (adamlambert.ning.com, ALN) is one of the 13 groups participating. Tomi Morris of Wilmington, Delaware, is coordinating the project for the group. The ALN Giving Page is under this link.
Adam Lambert Network has nearly 2,100 members in 56 countries.

DonorsChoose.org has created a unique giving page for each fan group, in addition to a general giving page, which displays classroom projects in need of funding. Fans can donate any amount to any project of their choosing; each contribution helps that particular fan group (or the general giving page) push forward in the competition. A “Lambert Leaderboard” at www.donorschoose.org/AdamLambert tracks and displays real-time results.

“My fans have been so amazing in their support that I would love for them to contribute to something I believe in,” said Adam Lambert. “Every kid deserves a great education and access to the materials and experiences that make it possible. I’m so thrilled to team up with DonorsChoose.org and encourage my fans to support arts and music projects in classrooms. Plus, I can’t wait to see the results of the competition!”

Across the country, thousands of classrooms lack the materials that are essential for learning. As school budgets tighten, learning supplies and tools become increasingly outdated, broken and scarce. School teachers nationwide spend $1 billion out-of-pocket each year, which rarely even covers each classroom’s needs.

“Adam is championing a campaign for public education that will positively affect thousands of students and teachers, and we couldn’t be more appreciative to have his support,” said Charles Best, founder and CEO, DonorsChoose.org. “So many students have a tremendous disadvantage simply because they don’t have the learning materials they need. Luckily, people like Adam and tens of thousands of everyday citizens are stepping in to help.”

For more information about the challenge, to visit a fan group’s giving page, and to view the “Lambert Leaderboard,” navigate to www.donorschoose.org/AdamLambert.

About DonorsChoose.org

Founded in 2000, DonorsChoose.org is a nonprofit website where public school teachers describe specific educational projects for their students, and donors can choose the projects they want to support. After completing a project, the donor hears back from the classroom they supported in the form of photographs and student thank-you letters.

To date, 102,000 public and charter school teachers have used the site to secure funding for $36 million in books, art supplies, technology, and other resources that their students need to learn. Through www.donorschoose.org, individuals from all walks of life have helped 2 million students from low-income families.

Adam Lambert to a fan – from idf.com: ‘I’m going to start a charity soon. Please don’t spend your money buying things for me’

I found this note on idolforums.com written by RandomPenguin who apparently has been talking with Adam in connection with one of the concerts.
Some first-hand info about why he does not come out before the show, that he will soon start a charity and prefer fans not to buy him presents he does not need.

I said “Adam, your fans want to know why you don’t come out in the afternoon.”
He answered “I come out after the show.”
I asked “But why don’t you come out before?”
And he said “Because it’s hot. I’m tired. I have to sing 5 songs and want to rest my voice — those songs are HIGH!” (and he kind of grabbed at his throat when he said that. It was kind of funny). Then he said “Tell them to come out after to meet me. I’d love to meet them after.”
I thanked him and started to walk away, but then he stopped me and said “Could you tell them something else for me? Could you tell them that I’m going to start a charity or something soon, and that I would rather they don’t spend their money buying things for me that I don’t need… and I don’t really have much space to put it on a bus anyway, ya know?” He then said that if the fans draw him a picture or write a poem, he thinks that is cool, but that he thinks their money should go to a better cause.
So there you have it! If you want to meet Adam, go after because he will not come out before the show, and donate to a charity!
