My friend Annie emailed me today. She and her husband were “dragged” to the show by their two teenage boys. She said that both her and her husband were pleasantly surprised by all the performances of the “kids” as she called them..that everyone one of them from Michael to Kris were enjoyable. However, when Adam hit the stage, she said their mouths dropped open and stayed that way for his whole performance. Much to the chargin of their kids, Annie and her husband were up dancing and cheering. She said she cheered so hard her voice is hoarse today.

They were blown away by Adam…didn’t know much about him, hadn’t watched AI.
She said “he completely captivated the audience..they were all his, in awe of his vocal ability and his command of the stage” After Adam’s performance she said she and her husband just looked at each other ” trying to figure out what the hell had just happened.” LOL, the excitement in her email was tangible.

She is busy trying to get tickets for tonight’s performance for both her and her husband.
She said “Adam embodies everything that is a superstar”.

(…)Then the Ford music videos started playing, and I knew the time was near. Whenever a body part of Adam’s showed up, the fans SCREAMED. They screamed some for Kris and Gokey, but not like they did for Adam. It really was an Adam crowd. Which personally made me happy since I’m an Adam fan. They showed the “We Will Rock You” one, and a couple others. The slow motion running one, and the mix it up one. Maybe more.

Then the screen did a countdown, 10 to 1. With every number they showed a picture of the corresponding idol. With every number shown the screams got progressively louder. Not sure if Kris got more screaming than Adam, but he certainly got screams. The screaming noticeably got louder around Anoop and Matt, then much louder from there on.

ADAM: I loved him on the show and my love for him can only grow from here. When Whole Lotta Love started, and he began to sing…I was stunned, actually. His voice is so much…higher, I guess, than on tape. It has a certain sound to it that I had never heard before. I completely got what the whole burlesque angel thing was about. He did come off as more feminine, but it took me til halfway through Starlight (the second song)to adjust to it. But when he was just starting WLL, he did indeed grab his crotch. Then right near the end, right before “BAAAAAABY” he puts the microphone stand between his legs like at the other show, but with a little less stroking. Then “Starlight” was beautiful, even as I was recovering from hearing his voice in person. His voice is just AMAZING. So rich and beautiful. And then he introduced Allison as his little sister, and they rocked out. Then he did the Bowie medley. At some point his jacket came off, and then during the dance one, he did some very cute/sexy dance moves. And “Mad World” was gorgeous.

Everything Adam did was flawless.

(…) before I talk about Adam, I should just say that the reaction to Kris was huge. The auditorium went absolutely wild for him so keep that in mind when I say that they went batshit crazy for Adam. He was the only performer that everyone started to stomp their feet for in anticipation (to the point that, thinking Danny was only singing three songs, they started in before Danny’s last performance). Once he was on stage it turned into the Adam Lambert show (and his entrance and exit seemed designed to increase this feeling). I can’t really explain it but he actually sounds even better live. His set was just epic and bombastic, only slowing down for Mad World and then ratcheting the energy back up again for Slow Ride. He and Allison seem to just feed off each other and gave the performance of the night. Just when you think he can’t work the stage more, for his Bowie stuff he strips off his jacket to just a black vest and proves you wrong. He easily had the best set of the night.

I’ll hand it to the production team behind this because the change in tone from Adam’s mini rock concert to Kris’ set could have been a disaster, but they really do a great job of resetting the mood more toward Kris’ singer-songwriter style. His version of Heartless is still the best rendition of that song.

I never watched the show. I thought it was kind of lame. I went to the concert because my son and daughter do watch the show and they are too young to go on their own. They both dressed in Blue and Silver and I had no idea why. It was a fairly sedate show and some of the singers were a little laughable ie the third one to the end. Then the lights went out and my kids started yelling and screaming. I asked them why since the stage was empty. Then I found out why. The one they were yelling and screaming for was Adam Lambert (the only one I know the name of-now). I have to say even this jaded old mom had a reaction to him. I actually found myself cheering and screaming right along with my kids and it was real. This guy evokes that kind of response. I just about had to restrain myself from rushing the stage. My poor kids would have a mommy in jail. If you are on the fence about going go just to see Adam Lambert he is worth it. After Adam performed we left since the kids were tired.

I thought this year’s concert was a little disappointing. The acoustics were actually bad the entire show, not just the beginning. Last year had brilliant production sets, this year bare minimum and contact with fans non-existant. For the most talented group ever, the were some really lame song choices. Adam, David Bowie songs dont make good dance songs. Kris was anti-climatic following Adam, and everybody just sat down and got ready to leave. I’m glad I went, but it was just OK.

Allison is just fantastic, what a voice…..She is incredible, loved her set…especially her duet with Adam…

Adam was amazing as was Kris, I thought Kris should of had a longer set, but he sounded flawless, his rendition of Heartless was really good. I wish he would of sang “Remember the Time” by Michael Jackson and I wish Adam would of sang “Change” but overall it was a very good show. Well worth the money..

The Sacramento Bee about Idol Tour concert: ’spectacle of lights, theatrics and amazing music’

The Sacrament Bee has made a comment of the Idol Tour concert that took place on the 10th of July 2009 in Sacramento. The article called ‘Concert Review: Packed Arco Arena revels in Idol-atry’ was written by Leigh Grogan:

The monster machine that is the “American Idols Live! Tour 2009″ roared into Arco Arena last night. And, for three hours, fans of the TV show and the Top 10 finalists were treated to a spectacle of lights, theatrics and amazing music.

I don’t even know where to begin and end with second-place finisher Adam Lambert. He clearly was the performer this audience was clamoring for. And he delivered. Washed in shades of blue and silver (his signature colors) and wearing a leather “morning coat,” Lambert made mincemeat of the microphone with Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love.” There was smoke and faux fire as he dominated the stage. He’s made perfection out of his haunting reprise of “Mad World” by Tears for Fears, which he sang at least twice on the TV show.
The audience was on its feet for the Lambert/Iraheta duet of Foghat’s “Slow Ride,” which they also performed on “American Idol.” With a bigger stage they played a cat-and-mouse game with the rock classic.
