Adam Lambert’s advice for other dreamers, being himself and fans’ support to Out&About magazine
Posted by MsAlex in American Idol 8, Idol 8 Tour, Interviews, July 2009, Memphis, Press & Media on August 1st, 2009
Out&About Newspaper has made ‘O&AN Exclusive: 1-on-1′ interview with Adam Lambert after his concert in Memphis, published on the 31th of July by Kirstine Keiper.
Due to the heavy traffic of the readers of this particular interview, the site has been down for couple of hours yesterday…
Journalist’s first impression of Adam:
You can’t help but notice him as he chats up the different press outlets at the Memphis FedEx Forum. Even here, Lambert stands out from the rest of the pack. The runner-up on Season 9 (??) of American Idol is kind, gracious, honest, attractive, gay – someone you’d want to befriend.
And some of Adam’s quotes from this interview:
Advice for the dreamers
Hmmm, I like that question. I think it’s hard because being a dreamer isn’t always the easiest thing in the world because we have to exist in a space that is not reality.
We have to exist in that ‘what if’ or ‘imagination’ world, and I think that with all the pressures of everyday life, you can constantly be thrown out of that, and it’s almost a fight to stay in that ‘dreamer’ space. My advice would be to try to find a new angle, a new perspective on something, and that’s in my opinion, the best way to take your dreams and make them come true.
Find a way to be new and fresh with your ideas, and just to keep dreaming. Find your safe space that is conducive to that. Find a way to tap into that part of yourself and not be thrown out of that dreamer space. Stay on the cloud!
Being himself
Well, I’ve been on stage since I was like 10 years old, so that’s helped me a lot. It’s a pretty comfortable place for me. Sometimes – it sounds a little cliché – but sometimes being on stage is almost more comfortable than certain aspects of real life.
Although that’s gotten better for me, but I think in my twenties, I’ve gotten more comfortable in my own skin, and in who I am as a real person. I think that’s part of the reason why I transitioned out of theatre—which is pretending to be somebody else—and into this art form, which is being myself, maybe in a heightened form. Maybe it’s more of a persona, but it’s based on who I really am. So, I think that reflects my personal growth.
Nashville thoughts and suport of the fans
I think Nashville has now become a huge music scene, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I ended up there for some project or another.
The support that I’ve seen out here has meant a lot to me, and it’s been surprising, because I didn’t realize that was the case. I kind of figured, ‘Oh, I’m maybe more supported in the metropolitan, liberal areas.
I didn’t think the South, and there was also so much support in Utah. There had been areas in my head that I thought were more conservative areas, and the support has been unbelievable. So far in the South, I’ve found the fans have been wilder than they were in California.
I mean… people are really enthusiastic and passionate down here. It’s kind of all hitting me all at once, that it’s universal, and that means a lot to me. That means I did something right, and I’m really happy about that.

Adam Lambert in Memphis: ‘working the screaming crowd like a master puppeteer’ (Examiner.com)
Posted by admin in American Idol 8, Idol 8 Tour, July 2009, Memphis on July 29th, 2009
Kelly Keltner has written a concert review from IdolTour concert in Memphis, American Idol 2009 Tour hits Memphis – Adam Lambert wins screaming contest, published on 28th Julyn 2009 on Examiner.com.
Adam-fragments below:
I knew I had stepped into the mouth of madness when I walked in and saw a woman wearing a shirt that was nothing but Adam Lambert’s eyeball. Not two eyeballs. Just one. And for the Glamberts out there: I don’t know which one it was. Do you guys and dolls have a preference? Because, if so, I’m sure it was that one.
The madness was only intensified anytime the jumbo-trons, guarding the stage like gargantuan monoliths, displayed the image of Adam Lambert. With each and every flash of his face, screams erupted throughout the crowd. At one point, they even replaced the top of his skull with an automobile. No matter. They still screamed.
(Danny Gokey’s) set ended and the air was nearly sucked out of the arena as almost every woman from age 2 – 98 took a preparatory breath as they awaited the appearance of the boy with the leather pants and guyliner. Looking back, those like me will remember the next moment as the moment that rendered their hearing less operative. Because as soon as the graphics appeared on the jumbo-trons indicating Adam’s arrival, the noise in the arena swelled to deafening roar. Imagine the sound that would occur if a thousand Robert Pattinsons were suddenly dropped into a swirling mass of schoolgirls and Twilight moms.
Adam’s set was less Billboard Pop 100 and more the cuts you’d find on the mp3 players of slightly more discerning music fans and wannabe hipsters (no offense intended: my MP3 player contains the discography of Bowie and Gary Jules’ Mad World, as well). He appropriately grinded across the stage, working the screaming crowd like a master puppeteer with him playing Jim Henson and thousands of female fans playing his Kermit.
You’re welcome.
It was easy to see how he won the title.
Oh wait. He didn’t?
