InStyle analyzes Adam Lambert and his outfits during American Idol 8

InStyle online magazine has been closely monitoring the evolution of styles of all American Idol contestants this year. Adam was a category in itself, with his ‘gothic-inspired look—black spiky hair, eyeliner, chain necklaces and skinny jeans’ which ‘perfectly fit with the rock songs he sings’.

And as Paula Abdul said after his performance of Michael Jackson’s Black or White’: “You have an innate ability to know who you are as an artist and marry fashion with music’ and as  Miles Siggins said: ‘He is like David Bovie,  playing a new character each week.”

The below is the overview of what Adam Lambert has been singing and his outfits during his performances n American Idol season 8. Source: InStyle.com.

Radio broadcast with Adam Lambert on 963dvd

In this short phone interview with the radio station 963dvd, Adam answers some more questions, among others:

Do you play instruments? – Adam: No, I do not. I really respect Kris for being able to play so many instruments. He can play anything.
How was the food in Idol mansion? – Adam: It was fat. I was glad when we prepared the choreography with Paula Abdul I was happy to loose some calories.
What about choreography in your performances? Adam: I just asked for it. The difference was that many people just didn’t ask for it. And the people from American Idol team were really open for everything. I asked and they just said: ok, let’s try it.
Hear also about how long time does it take Adam to get ready in the morning, Gene Simmons dry sense of humour and more.

Hal Rubenstein on American Idol – and Adam’s feel for fashion

Fashion Director of InStyle magazine,  Hal Rubenstein has his own column in HuffingtonPost.  After the nation voted for the next American Idol, he wrote:

American Idol needed Adam to triumph more than Adam needed to hear Ryan Seacrest call out his name. As arguably — and I will happily take on all comers here — the most talented contestant the number one series has presented in eight seasons, Idol could have used a win by Adam to bolster both its talent-vaulting validity as well as prove a crosses-all-demographics appeal. Instead, the show can place Adam on the roster headed up by Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry as one of the off-center ones that got away, and it can add Kris to the growing list of Southerners (six out of eight) who have crossed the finish line in first.

At the same time he is definitely not taking anything away from Allen’s ‘surprisingly soulful talent’ and he is sure that ‘he would rightfully have bested a final against Jordan Sparks, Taylor Hicks, Ruben Studdard and possibly even David Cook’.

And he is sure that as far as the results are concerned, Adam Lambert could have another strategy – in order to win.

If Lambert really wanted to have played the game “their” way, he might have been better off in mid-season reverting to his natural blonde hair and freckled complexion. But why yield completely when the final verdict no longer matters that much to a career? By remaining raven-haired, nailed and cloaked, Lambert garnered an Entertainment Weekly cover, websites almost crashing in blogolades, and what will now, in retaliation; likely evolve into a gleefully rabid fan base. Guess what color they’ll wear to his first solo tour?

As a man from the fashion world, he also comments on Adam’s feel for style and compare it to Kris’ lack of same.

AT&T – the voting controversy clarified

After a week of rumours and controversy about the outcome of the American Idol finale, AT&T finally issued a statement followed by Associated Press story about the so-called ‘power voting’. In the article we read:

A few overeager AT&T employees brought demo phones to “American Idol” viewing parties in Arkansas and helped fans text their votes, but their actions did not affect the outcome between native son Kris Allen and Adam Lambert.

About 20 phones were brought to two separate parties in Arkansas, and two of those phones were capable of sending multiple votes by so-called “power texting,” a person familiar with the gatherings said. A second person, with knowledge of the voting results, said Allen won by a large enough margin that a handful of voters could not have swayed the outcome.

In this way, hopefully, the conspiration theory has been clarified and America can go further and ‘relax’.

Rumours Only? Short about the Arkansas votes and AT&T

Found this article about the controversy around the votes that came from Arkansas during American Idol finale. Please note that it is still on the stage of rumours only – nothing is officially confirmed. Speculations are however made. Please see the fragment of the article published at the site: adam-lambert.org:

It’s now Friday, May 22 and I just got this e-mail:

“I am a student at the University of Central Arkansas in the heart of Conway, AR…Kris Allen’s hometown. There was a newspaper article that was produced today by our local newspaper basically about how people could vote so many times for Kris Allen. I’m posting the link for the Conway, Arkansas newspaper as well as an email that was sent out through the UCA listserve that basically explains step by step how these Kris Allen fans or fanatics, if you will, were able to vote so many times. I thought I couldn’t do anything about it even though I thought it was a disservice and unfair. I’m glad that I am finally able to expose the people and their obsession with being “put on the map.”

Here’s the link she’s talking about.

Also, The New York Times approaches the subject, writing:

AT&T, one of the biggest corporate sponsors of American Idol, might have influenced the outcome of this year’s competition by providing phones for free text-messaging services and lessons in casting blocks of votes at parties organized by fans of Kris Allen, the Arkansas singer who was the winner of the show last week. Representatives of AT&T, whose mobile phone network is the only one that can be used to cast “American Idol” votes via text message, provided the free text-messaging services at two parties in Arkansas after the final performance episode of “American Idol” last week, according to the company and people at the events.

For sure, there will be more to come and more to be revealed in the next days, so stay tuned!

The heart of American Idol

This article from BusinessMirror.com is a very seldom example of the good press commentary after the American Idol 8 results. According to the author, Richard Rushfield from Los Angeles Times, Kris Allen gave the ‘heart’ back to the show.

One always had the slight sense that Adam understood that Idol was just a step in his career. That while others thought they had reached the pinnacle of the known universe, Adam understood there were, in fact, higher peaks waiting ahead for him.  An understandable sentiment from anyone with a bit of exposure to the entertainment business, but not one that brought tears to people’s eyes when they thought of his journey.
