Adam Lambert mocked by Danny Gokey’s family? – controversy

Today, after logging into twitter, something hit me in the eyes.
The keyword: #gokeyisadouche.
After a while I found out that on one of the AI – unofficial forums today, there have been posted some pictures from the dinner some of American Idol contestants had with Danny Gokey and his family. The pictures – and the comments – show that Adam Lambert possibly became a target of humiliation by Danny’s family.
See the whole thread here.
From adamofficial.com: link to the facebook photos and comments: here .

Post Comment:
As for now, the pictures has been removed from the Facebook profile/ Facebook page has been made private.
Also, mtv.com has mentioned the #gokeyisadouche – gate calling it: ‘Danny Gokey Detractors Take Their Fight To Twitter, Google’.

Late Wednesday, someone hacked into the Facebook account of Gokey’s cousin and discovered that she had posted a series of photos that showed Gokey and his family out to dinner with Lambert and several other “Idol” contestants (at a Buca di Beppo, of all places). Apparently, Gokey had printed out a photo of “Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert wearing green body paint, glitter and blue lipstick and brought it to dinner to have Lambert sign it.

Lambert wasn’t too thrilled with this (which is evident in the Facebook pics), but he signed anyway, then posed for several pictures with Gokey’s family. Those photos were also posted on Gokey’s cousin’s Facebook page, along with several comments from friends, that were generally of the “OK, I just puked!!” and “ooooooooooooooooooh HELL NO!!!” variety. There was also this comment posted by someone named Talea A. Gokey: “To tell you the truth, dad stayed as far away as the room would allow!”

And, probably the best comment of the case is the one provided by gossipcandy.com

That was very low and pathetic of Danny and his family. They have absolutely no class to humiliate Adam like that. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were the ones who leaked all of Adam’s personal pictures. The things they would do to destroy Adam’s career. Too bad for them it didnt’ work. Adam is one of the biggest celebrities in the world right now and look at how millions of people are defending him on the internet right now. Poor Adam had to put up with those disgusting rats. And he was nice enough to take pictures with them.

I didn’t like Danny before this happened, and I sure as hell don’t like him now. I am even more thoroughly disgusted by him now and I didn’t even think that was possible. Danny and his family are awful people.

  6. #6 by Andy - June 18th, 2009 at 00:05

It is sad, disgusting, and shameful how Danny and his family speak of Adam as if he is a freak and outcast. Their remarks are clearly aimed at mocking Adam’s expression of his own sexuality.

  7. #7 by Lamebert - June 18th, 2009 at 00:14

Very low and pathetic of Danny’s family? Look at you Glambert fans going off on twitter being so immature about this situation. Adam Lambert is lame.

  8. #8 by madasheck - June 18th, 2009 at 00:22

#7 And your post shows what a hypocrite you are!

  9. #9 by Andy - June 18th, 2009 at 00:27

When logic and reason are insufficient to counter homophobia, other measures are certainly acceptable

  10. #10 by madasheck - June 18th, 2009 at 00:27

It is obvious that Danny went out of his way to dig that photo up with malicious intentions to embarass him in a public way but with his family there to make him feel comfortable about it. He is every bit deserving of the title “douche”!

  11. #11 by Beauty - June 18th, 2009 at 01:07

WOW! I’m from Gokey’s hometown & I can’t believe it. Sad, disappointed & angry!!! Adam Lambert, U Da Effin Best!!! U Da Best (A.I.) Eva Had!!! *sings “best I eva had” by Drake* #gokeyisadouche

  12. #12 by Nina - June 18th, 2009 at 01:49

First of all…I doubt VERY much that this photo is in any way embarrassing to Adam. It’s simply him in his costume for WICKED. (You’ll notice Glinda and Elphaba on the stage in the background) Geez…It’s a gorgeous Adam from a fantastic musical. What’s the big deal?

  13. #13 by anja - June 18th, 2009 at 02:01

The deal, Nina, is the INTENTION with which Danny’s small-minded, emotionally retarded family approached Adam.

They are the kind of “christians” that give genuine loving christians (like Kris Allen) a bad name.

Danny the light is shining on your shit

  14. #14 by elw - June 18th, 2009 at 04:24

I’ve read the comments on Facebook and they’ve made me sick. Danny and his family are what gives ‘Christians’ a bad name, they’re hypocrites.

  15. #15 by tpaoturpin - June 18th, 2009 at 05:37

Another reason why adam is a superstar and gokey and family, losers……….

  16. #16 by pbj - June 18th, 2009 at 05:39

I really don’t see why this deserves any freaking out about. I mean yes it’s devastating and it makes your heart hurt to hear someone to do something like that to adam. I feel that, but seriously did you even read those? They sound ridiculously FAKE! I mean the way they took those pictures and used them to point out every single “flaw” of Adam’s? I mean who would comment about a picture and then randomly at the end add, “He did like to tell me how good he thought he looked in one of the photos I had him sign” I mean come on that is not something you would casually mention in a caption of a picture that has NOTHING to do with that. It sounds like an outside party trying to start a beef, if you ask me. I beg of you people to stop because I know that you’re just doing it because you love adam and you want to support him and protect him, but all you’re doing is stooping to their level. Would adam approve or be proud of you guys for bashing gokey? No, sir. He’d want you to be as understanding as he is. I believe if you don’t know a person you’ve no reason or room to talk badly about them. Let’s not draw any more attention to this subject. Please. It’s only hurting more people if we don’t.

  17. #17 by wiccagirl2009 - June 18th, 2009 at 06:33

I am an Adam fan. Love him very much and is very happy that he is doing well. The Gokey thing is hurtful only because it gives credence on a previous “homophobe” hypothesis. But after looking at the link again and thinking about the whole thing, I realized that we should tone down our (as fans in general) reaction for the following reasons:

    a. Adam already owned up to his sexuality. I am sure those detractors who are making fun of him before would think twice before saying anything again. This would include the likes of Danny Gokey and Micheal S. Unfortunately, some efforts done in the past would be pop-up now. We just have to take this in stride.

    b. Adam advocates peace so he will surely want everybody to not fight. I know we have to defend him from detractors but maybe we should like him does it nicely. Sometimes, laughing on issues is better than getting angry. More smiles than dagger looks. Let’s take the high ground on this. If other fans say something nasty, just say your piece and smile at them. I think this will be more effective for us and Adam. Or better yet, let’s not talk about it. Coz good or bad, it is still publicity. I rather not give those people any publicity, that way they just fade into obscurity.

    c. Adam needs to focus on his song/CD – as we all love him, we want the best for him. And right now, we should give him time to work on the CD. We continue to support by being present online, giving encouraging comments, text voting on different sites (i.e. MTV Teens Choice Award – teens). Just loving him in the way we know how.

    d. Adam needs our support when his CD comes out. We need to buy, download to ensure that his single or album reach number 1. We can call the radio stations and request airplay.

I am sure some of you might not like what I stated but I think this is the only way for us to ensure Adam’s longevity in the business. I would like to see Adam still active in the industry 10 or 20 years from now. That would be the ultimate reaffirmation that Adam is indeed the idol we dreamed him to be.

    Peace!

    1) I have to agree with those who say Danny and his family are an embarrassment and an insult to Christianity and to those who demonstrate real Christian values, like Kris and his family for example. Kris is not my type in any way but you can’t take it away from the guy that he is a credit to his faith and his upbringing.

    2) Death was a blessed escape to Sofia.

  19. #19 by Brenda - June 18th, 2009 at 12:21

A good way to end this whole debacle with the Gokey family…blessed silence. When you get down in the mud with the pigs, you get dirty and the pigs like it.

This is a very good time to rise above the nastiness and cruelty that was obviously intended towards Adam. The only way to combat this is to go above it, leave it alone and let the whole issue starve to death…without our energy, without our continuing to feed it by viewing the article and talking about it on a variety of boards, the issue will die a natural death, and nothing will change in Adam’s life, except we’ll love him just a little bit more and feel protective of him, just a little bit more.

Remember, the carousel principle…what goes around, comes around. Karma, karma…
Soon, you’ll get to see the effect that this kind of toxic energy will have on the people who create this kind of toxic energy.

    Get it?
    Truly this works!
    Silence…

I don’t feel sorry for Adam. Danny has endured much worse and continues to endure the worst that can be thrown at him. Apparently the world has to accept Adam as gay but not Danny. I love Danny’s voice and I can not wait to hear more of him.
It seems that every opportunity possible to attack Danny is abundantly abused.
This day and this age is embarrassing. Zero tolerance. It is way to easy to attack. Poor poor Adam. Oh please – it is just more publicity for Adam. Frankly, people need to back off of Danny.

Jeolousy could play a big role, you know? Everyone knows that Danny is the only one who hasn’t yet have a record deal. Even Allison was at the forth place and already signed deal. Well, America doesn’t need him. His family and his own attitudes killed his own career, I can see that.

    Lamebert :

We’re not twittering to defend Adam’s honor or wahtever. We’re twittering to fight homophobia. No one gives a shit if he had been attacking Clay Aiken or David Bowie or Adam. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that he is attacking someone (and who that someone is is irrelevant) for their sexuality and their expression of it.

    #dannyisadouche. Spread it ’round benches!

Sorry, but when you grow up and are attacked for being gay, ridiculed for how you present yourself, bashed for feeling a certain attraction, then you can talk.

Okay, his wife died. We get that. He mentions it ten million times a day! But does that give him a right to bash someone for their sexuality? Just because he’s been through ‘worse’? No, it doesn’t.

Who the people are committing the act of homophobia and who is on the receiving end of it is irrelevant. What matters is that this ‘Christian’ is attacking someone for something they can’t control.

I have no sympathy for someone who would act like that. I don’t care if his wife is dead. No one should ever act like this.

That’s pretty evil of the Gokeys to do that. I never trusted Gokey from the beginning. A rat can be smelled from far away.

Why do they condemn and mock homosexuality?
Did you know that divorce and remarrying were condemned in the olden days??? Did you know that marrying a NON-virgin bride was condemned in the olden days. BUT BOTH divorce, re-marrying and non-virgin brides are widely accepted today!!!!!

If the USA were to follow the Bible to its tee, more than 75% of American will be executed because over 50% of the Americans are divorced, re-married and over 80% of the American women are non-virgins when they were brides.

    DEUTERONOMY 22:13-21
“If it is discovered that a bride is not a virgin, the Bible demands that she be executed by stoning immediately.”

    MARK 10:1-12
“Divorce is strictly forbidden in both Testaments, as is remarriage of anyone who has been divorced.”

Gokey is afraid of his own sexuality. hell, he might have told Adam he was interested in him and Adam turned him down and now the douche is pissed! LOL Anyways! Adam, once again, showed class, showed he is a professional, and showed how gracious he is. And he’s laughing all the way to the bank! LOLLLL

    “”Lauri :

I just read this. I’m sorry Laurie, you are right.
Ok people! Laurie is right! If we accept Adam as gay, we should accept Danny as gay as well!
    How about it???

    LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gokey and his family should be ashamed of themselves for their behavior toward Adam. If this is their brand of Christianity, they can have it. No wonder so many people are turning away from the fundamentalists and their intolerance.

Kris Allen and his family are also Christians and are very open-minded, so are Scott, Matt, and LIl. Like people should not judge all Gay people. People should not judge all Christians from Gokey’s family.

What Gokey’s family and friends did was ignorant, but not all Christians are the same.

Does Gokey even deserve to go on the Idol tour?

  31. #31 by Viv - June 20th, 2009 at 10:30

Owlie, I’m not judging all Christians by the Gokey Klan (spelling intentional). That’s why I described it as “their” brand of Christianity.

No, Lisa, Gokey doesn’t deserve to go on the AI tour. His behavior is disgraceful, IMO.

Adam(a gay freak) should not dress up in drag. Adam Lambert and his obsessed fans -the gayberts & other fantards are deulusional idiots

  33. #33 by sylverine - June 21st, 2009 at 16:29

#32 Pat you’re a total inbred backwoods retard! Adam wasn’t ‘in drag’, he was in costume for his role in the famous musical “Wicked” for heaven’s sake. Get an education, come out of the trailer park and join the real modern world. Or maybe not. Stay where you are so we don’t have to endure you.

I am aa Adam fan from outside the US….and am tottally shocked at this whole thing!
Making fun of someone is disgusting!
No one can tell me that Danny wanted Adam to sign that picture without ulterior mean intentions!
Shame on you…really….I am appauled at how low Danny is going!
Not to worry Adam fans……Karma is a great payback….and Danny is running up a bill!

  35. #35 by dontmakemebluebaby - June 22nd, 2009 at 13:52

wiccagirl2009, i agree completely with that. i mean, if Adam isn’t throwing some huge fit over it and he isn’t bashing Gokey himself, why should we get involved? it’s there business and we don’t know if it’s actually what happened that night. people are so gullible and anything that is stated on the internet people will most likely believe. I’m a huge adam fan, and if what they say happened is true, i feel really bad and i wish that wouldn’t be the case but people need to learn to forgive and forget, especially if it’s not their problem to deal with. i love Adam, and that picture of him at the restaurant breaks my heart (though i don’t know the guy personally, i still feel really bad). i really wish people wouldn’t take matters into their own hands in cases like this. please stop bashing Gokey and just support Adam.

  36. #36 by Yvonne - June 23rd, 2009 at 11:31

What I want to know is if Danny and his family denies having anything to do with this. I am starting to think that this was started by people just trying to start trouble because they have nothing better to do. Danny needs to clarify that he and his family had nothing to do with this, this would make a great deal of difference. Danny needs to aplologize for this picture being used to cause all this drama. It makes him and his family look like a bunch of narrow minded bigots.

  37. #37 by Millie - June 24th, 2009 at 12:43

There’s people above mad at Adam’s fans because what they’re saying in twitter, well buddy they said what they said after Danny relatives said what they said! Got it? Adam is not lame,he is naive because let his “friend” making fun of him like that! Danny and relatives, shame on you!

  38. #38 by Megan - June 29th, 2009 at 10:20

I think this is all a rumour. No one even knows for a fact that this actually even happened. If Gokeys family is truly Christian (as I believe they are) – This would not have happened. However I would like to respond to tij’g post:

Why do they condemn and mock homosexuality?
Did you know that divorce and remarrying were condemned in the olden days??? Did you know that marrying a NON-virgin bride was condemned in the olden days. BUT BOTH divorce, re-marrying and non-virgin brides are widely accepted today!!!!! -

    Um – The olden days???

The bible & what it says still apply to today. Not just “the olden days”

In response to this post of yours:

If the USA were to follow the Bible to its tee, more than 75% of American will be executed because over 50% of the Americans are divorced, re-married and over 80% of the American women are non-virgins when they were brides.

You will not be executed for being Gay or divorcing & remarrying (even though the bible clearly disagrees with both & is relevant today) Why? Because Jesus Christ is the Messiah & he forgives our sins if we give our lives to him.

That is the basis of Christianity – even in 20009.

Are you guys for real? I’m bummed that I JUST now stumbled across this. If you narrow minded people only knew. Did you guys know that Danny and Adam are FRIENDS and still communicate to this day!? What Danny did was a joke and Adam took it that way! That’s what friends do! There was no malicious attempt to ruin Adam’s career! I love how you guys jumped to that conclusion. Now…what Danny’s family did on Facebook is no excuse but does Danny control his family? Do you control your families actions!? No! Reading all your posts make me sick! Because you THOUGHT Danny was judging Adam, you automatically not only judged Danny but you slandered him. Someone even said “Death was a way out for Sophia!”. Wow. You guys should literally be ashamed of yourselves. No need for a response because I won’t see it. I will never bother coming to this site again.
