A lot of groups have tried to diffuse hate speech by co-opting it, but it backfires by keeping it current in the acceptable language...I'm sure we can all think of examples. the main subtext of "cougar" is disapproval and hostility aimed at women, and suppression of feeling freely. One of the great mysteries and blessings of getting older is that we continue to find people our own age attractive. My significant other is my age, but I still find people of ALL ages (and genders) sexy, talented & appealing. Why is that ugly or shameful? I blame Adam for my desire to take a stand on this point!
