Adam Lambert to Baltimore Sun about his new album: ‘There are a lot of sexy songs’

A day before the Idol Tour concert in Baltimore, on the 4th of August 2009, Sam Sessa from The Baltimore Sun made an interview with Adam Lambert asking him the usual as well as some new questions.
Read Adam’s quotes from the interview below:

American Idol

I remember getting into the competition and feeling like, ‘Oh, I hope I crack the top 10.
I never thought I would get that far in ‘American Idol,’ considering that I’m a little bit more alternative.

Theater experience

I learned a lot in theater as far as how to please a crowd and create a ‘number,
I tried to do that each week with ‘Idol,’ from what I was wearing to how I used the stage to lighting things and sound things I used along the way. I just wanted to create a mood and theater definitely gave me that knowledge.

Interest in his past

I’m surprised that people looked past a lot of the other stuff. Maybe I suspended their disbelief and allowed them to be entertained. I think that’s what music should be.

David Bowie

Bowie’s a great example of somebody that brought out visual theatrics to help him tell his story.

Control over the album

I’m excited that I have some creative control and input as to what is going to be in the album. Contrary to popular belief, they do not puppet us around after ‘Idol.’ They’re giving me a lot of creative control.

The songs on the album

They’re sexy. There’s a lot of sexy songs – songs that are fun to dance to. There’s a lot of anthems and stuff you can sing along to. It pretty much just kicks ass.

Some fragments of this interview haven’t been included in the main version, but published same day at the baltimore weblog.

A new question is if Adam have heard from the authors of the songs he performed on Idol:

I heard in a roundabout way that the lead singer from Tears For Fears was really into what we did. I heard that Muse was happy with what I did. Ii’m also performing one of [Muse's] songs on the tour. That’s pretty much it. I haven’t heard from a lot of people.

I hope & pray his CD will be a hit. I’m scared that he keeps on saying that it has all the modern/dancy beats in it. This kind of songs are not lasting. I wish he includes songs that are gentle & soft with beautiful melodies, easy on the ears. Songs that are for solitude… However, even then, I will stil buy his CD to support him. Maybe his next other CDs will be love songs… I will just let it get it out of his system for it’s his dream to create those kind of songs.
