I will try to collect all the most interesting reviews of ‘For Your Entertainment’ snippets here…
3.11.2009
One of the very first to react was Jim Cantiello from mtv.com, (I have already written about his review earlier)
Based on the half-minute previews, For Your Entertainment seems to be evenly divided between glam stompers like the title track, “Sure Fire Winners” and “Strut” and big ballads like “Broken Open,” “A Loaded Smile” and “Soaked,” which was written by Muse’s Matt Bellamy and sounds similar to the band’s own “Unintended.” You can definitely hear the influence of Lambert’s all-star songwriters as well. “Music Again,” penned by the Darkness’ Justin Hawkins, serves as a glamtastic opening track that both welcomes listeners to For Your Entertainment and has us wishing the “I Believe In a Thing Called Love” rockers would reform.

Can’t wait three more torturous weeks for Glambert’s debut to drop? Be sated, child, by amazon.co.uk, the British arm of the books-plus behemoth: They’ve got 30-second teasers of all 19(!) tracks currently up on their site.

The songs include the throbbing title-track first single, as well as the collaboration with “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi, “Strut,” a chugging slab of glam rock with some ’80s-hair-metal-worthy guitar and a mix of Lambert’s falsetto and lower register. There’s also the new-wave-y ballad “Whataya Want From Me,” which bounces along on a bed of churning guitars and was written by Pink and radio-pop maestro Max Martin. Like “Whataya Want,” the disco ball-spinning raver “If I Had You” sounds a bit like a dancefloor remix of a Kelly Clarkson outtake, slathered with Lambert’s signature winking sensuality. And, of course, there are ballads, such as the sweeping, Linda Perry-co-written “A Loaded Smile,” which has Lambert pining over mechanical-sounding drums and weepy synthesizers, and “Broken Open,” an icy tearjerker that plays out over chilly keyboards and a spare, haunting beat.
Lambert has plenty of space to get loose, as on the “We Will Rock You”-style thumper “Sure Fire Winners” and the hair-metal stomper “Music Again,” a mystically powerful rock song that bears the heavy influence of co-writer and spandex-loving British wailer Justin Hawkins, formerly of the equally falsetto-tastic band the Darkness
It’s not hard to pick out the influence of OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder on “Sleepwalker,” which falls into the singer-songwriter’s growing canon of majestic/ominous-sounding ballads, such as Beyoncé’s “Halo.” There’s also no mistaking the song that Lambert was so excited to work on, the Lady Gaga collabo “Fever,” a preening bit of carnival pop that allows Lambert to indulge in some vocal bump-n’-grind as he sings like a naughty, gritty-voiced carnival barker over a throbbing beat and bouncy keyboards.

1. Music Again: Big, brash choruses worthy of a Def Leppard tune. “You make me wanna listen to music again!” Lambert gushes.
2. For Your Entertainment: The first single is sexy, outer-space blast of electro goodness. Finally, an Idol alum taking real chances on his first album.
3. Whataya Want From Me: Probably the disc’s most straightforward cut, with a bit of a Backstreet Boys vibe. Not bad.
4. Strut: Not a remake of the Sheena Easton tune (SIGH), but similiar to the title track.
5. Soaked: A moody piano ballad that could have come from the Broadway stage. Think Adam of the Opera.
6. Sure Fire Winners: Zippy vocal arrangement and a thrusting electro vibe. Probably killer in its full version. How can it not be with the line, “I was born with glitter on my face/My baby clothes made of leather and lace?” LOVE.
7. A Loaded Smile: Gauzy and seductive, with Lambert claiming he “never felt so satisfied.”
8. If I Had You: Another confident, charging club track. Divas to the dance floor, please!
9. Pick U Up: Sort of a sonic sibling to Pink’s So What. A good thing.
10. Fever: Anthemic and pulsing and sexy and ZOMGLOVEIT. Lambert’s delivery is killer. (Hear the demo by Lady Gaga, who wrote the song, above.)
11. Sleepwalker: This tune boasts a dark industrial chug that sounds like it builds as it progresses.
12. Aftermath: The best part? Crazy vocals that probably soar sky-high by the end.
13. Broken Open: An emotive ballad with interesting twitches that break up the routine.
14. Time For Miracles: Lambert’s big 2012 number that’s clearly out of place. It just doesn’t match the quality of the rest of the disc.

I just can’t believe how good these songs all sound. I cannot wait for the album. I hope it gets the attention it deserves over here in the UK where Adam is still relatively unknown. I feel like lobbying the radio stations! Obsessed! Never been this obsessed over a singer lol!

I can’t wait.
Only song I don’t like is “Time for Miracles”, sounds country. When that song first came out, I was so disappointed but after listening to snippets of the rest of the album, I feel much better.
